When was the last time you saw a Hollywood movie that made you glad you went to see it? These days they're mostly martial arts flicks directed by Chinese directors (Zhang Yimou), starring Hong Kong talent (Jet Li).

Lately, a few Asian Americans are stubborn and foolhardy enough to make films that they want to make, damn the consequences. Better Luck Tomorrow is one that has gone on to become a classic and to put its author at the helm of several major films.

Most of you probably have never heard of most of the ones I've listed. But if enough of us go to see them or buy the DVDs, more people may hear about them and -- who knows? -- they may get money to make some big movies that we can get excited about.

What movies have made you glad you shelled out $9?
